A Clean Energy Career Path.
How do you end up with a career in clean energy? Are there specific courses or programs that you need to do to be able to be considered for such a career? The answer is that there are many ways to eventually have a career in clean energy and the requirements very much depends on what it is you want to do.
If you are interested in research for solar, wind, biofuel, geothermal, wave, tidal or any other technical field you will benefit from having a strong backgound in science and math. If you would like to start a clean energy business then having a background in business will also be important.
Here is a video from someone that has a career in renewable energy and it is interesting to hear him describe the path that led him to this line of work.
The Importance Of A Clean Energy Career.
Global climate change is advancing faster than anyone would have predicted just a few years ago. The only way we can have an impact on this is too quickly reduce ( to zero) the amount of carbon dioxide that we are leasing into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels. Coal, oil and natural gas all produce co2 during combustion. Clean energy technologies such as wind and solar power produce no direct co2 emissions and are also now very mature industries capable of creating millions of great jobs.
College of Science alumnus John Moran gave a presentation about how his science-business studies led him to a career in the renewable energy industry. The presentation included discussions on the current state of the solar industry; financial modeling and project economics; electrical, civic and environmental engineering; public policy; and the future of the industry and how it relates to global warming, pollution and economic development.
